The Comedy Theatre Festival was born with two clear objectives in mind: to promote comedy theatre and to satisfy and increase citizens’ demand for theatre productions. Since the first edition in 1991, the public has shown its enthusiasm with over 90% of the venues sold for each performance and almost 80% of the tickets sold through the organized ticket sales system.

Organized by the Pedro Muñoz Seca Foundation in collaboration with the Honorable City Council of El Puerto de Santa María, the festival is held during August weekends in the courtyard of the San Luis Gonzaga school, where Muñoz Seca studied.

Other collaborating institutions include the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports through INAEM, as well as various companies based in El Puerto de Santa María.

Since 2001, two new features have been added to the program: a play for children and a street play where the city streets are honored as the ideal space for entertainment and culture.

This is the only theatre festival dedicated exclusively to comedy and has become a reference in Spain thanks to the collaboration of important companies and the appearance of prestigious celebrities and actors, to great public and critical acclaim.

One of the unique features of this Comedy Festival is the free childcare service. Thanks to this service, parents of small children can go to the theatre with their children and attend the performances.
